ARTHUR ALDRED

ARTHUR ALDRED 1839 -

Arthur was the youngest child of Thomas Aldred and Harriet Remnant, he was born 1839, this date is worked out from the census return and his marriage. Arthur was 11 years old when his nephew Frederick James Bonner came to live with them. Arthur became an Agricultural Labourer and lived at home with his mother until he married 19 year old Emmerline Boxhall from Ash, daughter of William Boxall at Frensham on 3rd January 1863. The witnesses were William Trimmer and Jane Bonner. I have found only 2 children baptised at Frensham, Mary Ann was baptised 28th May 1865 and Alice was baptised 27th October 1867.(Alice kept in contact with her cousin William Charles Bonner, as she was a witness with him at his niece Mary Matilda Bonner's wedding.) 

Arthur and his family moved to Bucks Horn Oak, Rowledge where he was Inn Keeper at the Half Way House. The family grew a bit more. Emily was born about 1870. Arthur William was baptised 27th August 1871,  Frederick Edward Thomas was baptised 27th April 1873, George was baptised 27th February 1876, Albert was baptised 31st March 1878, Thomas Henry was baptised 25th April 1880.

The 1881 census shows the now much larger family living at the Halfway House. Arthur Aldred, head, age 40, Publican, born Frensham. Emily Aldred, wife, age 36, born Normandy, Alice Aldred, daughter, age 13, born Dockenfield, Emily Aldred, daughter, age 11, born Binstead, William Aldred, son, age 9, Scholar, born Binstead, Frederick Aldred, son, age 7, Scholar, born Binstead, George Aldred, son, age 5, Scholar, born Binstead, Albert Aldred, son, age3, born Binstead, Thomas Aldred, son, age 1, born Binstead. Charles Knight, Lodger, unmarried, age 40, Agricultural Labourer, born Binstead, Jonathan Boxall, Lodger, unmarried, age 70, Agricultural Labourer, born Frensham, James Groves, Lodger, unmarried, age 61, Agricultural Labourer, born Bentley.

Minnie was born after the census, she was baptised 31st July 1881, Alfred James was baptised 3rd January 1885, Ada Maud was baptised 30th January 1887 and Emmeline was privately baptised 6th September 1888.

Arthur Aldred later gave up being an Inn Keeper and became a Farmer by 1898 when his daughter Emily married George Thomas Boxall.

FREDERICK EDWARD THOMAS ALDRED 1874 -

Frederick the 5th child of Arthur Aldred and Emmerline Boxhall, was born at Binstead he was baptised at St James' Rowledge 27th April 1873. He married Annie Alice Stovold daughter of Henry Stovold, at Rowledge 20th May 1899. The 1901 census finds them living at Batts Corner, Dockenfield. Fred Aldred, head, age 28, Bricklayers Labourer, born Binstead. Annie Aldred, wife, age 27, born Farnham.
