ALICE BAKER 1867 - 1958
Alice was born 6th September 1867 and baptised at St Margaret's church Spaxton on 13th October 1867. Her family moved to Wales, and I found them on the 1881 census living in Cowbridge, Glamorgan. Alice was not living at home, but may have been in service with Thomas Warren and his son Charley, she was 14, and put her birth place as Taunton. When Alice was aged 19 she was living at 14 Hall Street, Aberdare, where she met 21 year old Colliery Labourer William Henry Edwards also living at the same address. They married at the Register Office in Merthyr Tydfil on 17th June 1884.
They had 11 children. Alice was always known by younger generations as Gran Edwards. William and Alice lived at 57 Mary Street, Cilfynydd. This is certainly where her youngest daughter Lilian was born in 1912. The house is still lived in by family today. They moved to Llantwit Major and in the 1930's they were living in Llanblethian at Sunny Dale, Picton Terrace, which is next to the church. Alice's husband William Henry died age 67 on 19th March 1932, six months later Lilian married Edgar Chedzoy. Alice wrote her will while living here in 1934. When Alice was in her 80's she moved back to Cilfynydd to live with her daughter Sina Louisa Villers at 57 Mary Street, she died age 91 on 21st October 1958. Newspaper clipping.
