CHARLES WAY

CHARLES WAY 1810 - 1892
Charles was the 8th child of George Way and Mary Hemberry, he was baptised at Huntspill on 11th March 1810. Charles became a Private Day School Master. He married Elizabeth Fisher also from Huntspill she was baptised in 1809. They had 6 children. William baptised 7th February 1837 at Old Cleeve. Amelia was born in 1839 at Old Cleeve, Emlin was born in 1840 at Huntspill. There is a burial on 22nd July 1843 for Eleanor aged 1 year in the Old Cleeve registers. John was baptised 7th May 1844 at Old Cleeve, he married a girl named Maria and they had 5 children. Helen was also baptised at Old Cleeve on 4th April 1847.
The 1851census shows the family as Charles Way, aged 41, School Master, born at Huntspill. his wife Elizabeth, aged 46, School Mistress, born at Burnham. daughter Amelia, aged 11, born at Old Cleeve. daughter Emlin, aged 10, born at Huntspill. son John aged 6, born at Old Cleeve, and daughter Helen aged 4, born at Old Cleeve.
Later the family moved to Newport in South Wales. In 1881 Elizabeth was living with her daughter Amelia and husband Thomas Wills. Elizabeth died in 1892.
AMELIA WAY 1839 -
Amelia was the 2nd child of Charles Way and Elizabeth Fisher, she was born in 1839 at Old Cleeve, Somerset. The family moved to Newport in South Wales, where she met and married Thomas Wills a widower from Devon born in 1825. They married at Newport in 1864, her husband already had 6 children, and they had another five. John Rowland Wills born 1868 who married and became a Navel Training Instructor at Dartmouth, Kate M. born 1871, Helen E. born 1873, Matilda born 1880 and Albert Edward Wills who was born in 1883. Albert became Lord Mayor of Newport about 1955.
The 1881 census shows the family living at Nash Row, Christchurch, Monmouth. Thomas Wills, head, aged 56, Blacksmith, born at Lippiatt, Devon. Amelia, wife, aged 42, dressmaker, born at Hacleve (Old Cleeve). John R. son, aged 12, scholar, born at Christchurch, Kate M daughter, aged 10, scholar, born at Nash, Monmouth. Helen E daughter, aged 8, scholar, born at Nash. Matilda, daughter, aged 9 months, born at Christchurch, Monmouth. Elizabeth May (Way), mother in law) widow, aged 73, born at Burnham, Somerset.
EMLIN WAY 1840 -
Emlin was the 3rd child of Charles Way and Elizabeth Fisher, she was born in 1840 at Huntspill, Somerset. The family moved to Newport, South Wales. Emlin married George Worthy from Taunton, son of Jacob Worthy, at Newport in 1864. Emlin and George moved back to Somerset where their first 3 children were born and then up to Birkenhead where another 6 children including twins were born. Emlin and George both died at Birkenhead. JOHN WAY 1844 -
John was the 5th child of Charles Way and Elizabeth Fisher, he was born at Old Cleeve and baptised 7th May 1844. John moved to Newport, Wales with his family, he married Maria and had at least 4 children as shown on the 1881 census. They were living at 2 Eirw Road, Llantrisant. John Way, head, aged 36, Colliery Stoker (Eng Driv) born at Old Cleeve. Maria, wife, aged 34, Gelligaer. George P., son, aged 12, Rhymney. Martha U., daughter, aged 10, West Bromwich, Stafford. Margaret U., daughter, aged 4, Tyrphil. Charles J. son, aged 11m, Ynishir.
