DANIEL CHEDGZOY

DANIEL CHEDGZOY 1831 - 1891

Daniel was the fourth child of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy, he was baptised 21st August 1831 at Stoke St Gregory. He married Selina Masters, daughter of Robert & Deborah Masters, at South Street Chapel, Yeovil on 13th August 1854. The couple moved back to Stoke St Gregory by the time their first child Charles was born in 1857, he was not baptised at Stoke St Gregory. Mary Ann was baptised 24th January 1861, Harriet baptised 5th August 1862, George Robert baptised 10th June 1866, Deborah born about 1869, Eliza baptised 12th March 1871..

The 1861 census shows them living at Wood Hill, Daniel Chedgzoy, head, aged 30, Agricultural Labourer, born at Stoke St Gregory. Selina, his wife, aged 31, born at Stolford. Charles, son, aged 4, born at Stoke St Gregory. Mary Ann, daughter, aged 2 months, born at Stoke St Gregory. John, father, aged 64, Agricultural Labourer, born at Aller. Ann, mother, aged 62, born at Stoke St Gregory. George, brother, aged 17, Agricultural Labourer, born at Stoke St Gregory. 

Daniel's occupation is not clear, he seems to change between agricultural labourer, labourer and boot maker throughout his life, depending on which document you look at.

Daniel is not mentioned on the 1881 census, his family are living at 46 Stoford Hamlet, Barwick. Salina Chedzoy is stated as head, married, age 49, born at Stoford, son George age 14, a Labourer, born at Stoke St Gregory, daughter Deborah age 12, Glover Sew, born at Stoke St Gregory, daughter Eliza age 9, Scholar also born at Stoke St Gregory. Daughter Harriet Chedgzoy was working as a general Domestic Servant for the Johnson Household at Tower Cottage, Bournemouth Road, Parkstone, Dorset. 

Daniel died 4th September 1891 in Wales. Selina died aged 85 in the presence of her granddaughter B. Florence Pitcher on 14th June 1915 at Melbury Osmund, Dorset.
