DODDISCOMBESLEIGH
Doddiscombesleigh is a rural village about 6 miles south west of Exeter. In the center 3 roads converge to a triangle which is fenced off by railings, inside is a large tree and a sign pointing to St Michaels church. Opposite there is a charming 16th century Inn, called The Nobody Inn. Local Legend says, that one of the owners of the Inn, refused to give weary travellers hospitality, by locking the doors and not answering when they called, they went away thinking nobody was in. The name has stuck, but today the Inn offers plenty of good food. Information from the Nobody Inn Web site. The church is about 200 yards from The Nobody Inn, a well worn path has been trod between the two, when I walked it, I chuckled at the thought of all the people having gone to church on Sunday mornings and walking along this path to the Inn. In 1831 Doddiscombesleigh had 392 inhabitants.
Doddiscombesleigh is where my Sercombe Family lived for a few generations, there was more than one Sercombe family farming in the area.
