EMMANUEL CHEDZOY
EMMANUEL CHEDZOY 1862 - 1947
Emmanuel Chedzoy was the 3rd child of Emmanuel Chedzoy and Sarah Way, he was born 4th March 1862 and was baptised at Stoke St Gregory church 13th April 1862. He married Matilda Wackett on 31st August 1889, witnesses were Sidney Chedzoy and Sarah Jane Chedzoy. I found them on the 1891 census living at Stoke St Gregory, Emmanuel aged 29 and Matilda aged 26 born at Wormley Hertfordshire. They only had one child Oliver John Chedzoy. Emmanuel was a platelayer. Emmanuel died in 1947 and Matilda died in 1948.
OLIVER JOHN CHEDZOY 1892 -1977
Oliver John Chedzoy was baptised at Stoke St Gregory church 27th March 1892, he was an only child. Oliver lived in Stoke St Gregory his house was Hancocks Cottage. He died on 5th January 1977 without leaving a will or descendents. A Taunton Solicitor traced his family back to his father Emmanuel and his siblings, no trace could be done on his mothers side. Oliver's estate was shared out to living descendents of his father's siblings. My mother and her sister received a 24th share.

New information about Oliver has now been uncovered (by Gareth Mellors.) During an exhibition in Stoke St Gregory in November 2008, the owner of Hancocks Cottage came forward with a portrait of Oliver Chedzoy found in the attic. The portrait was taken in 1916, while Oliver was serving in the navy in WWI.
Gareth was spurred on to find out more, and managed to find Oliver's service record. It has revealed that Oliver was living in Cymmer, Porth in Wales, working as a Collier before he enlisted in January 1915. His height was 5' 8 1/2", dark complexion, brown hair and grey eyes, and he could swim. He served on HMS Warspite and was probably at Jutland.
