GEORGE CRUSE
GEORGE CRUSE 1851 - 1931 my thanks to John Westcott who has given me details of Georges life.
George was born at Kenton in 1851, the son of John Cruse and Sarah Pester. The 1851 census return shows George's age as 5 months, which explains why his brother Daniel Richard was staying with his Pester grand parents at the time.
George was present when his brother Daniel Richard died, at Kenton in 1874 and he registered the death, giving his address as 14 Frederick Street, Caledonean Road, Islington, London. George is mentioned on the 1881 census age 30 and unmarried living with his father and 2nd wife Elizabeth in Kenton, George gave his occupation as Blacksmith. George married Mary Ann Towill in 1885 at Kenton. Sometime during the next 6 years he moved his family to Denbury, his youngest daughter May was born there on 28th May 1893. Later moving to Sandford where he was Sexton.
After May got married, George and Mary Ann went to live with them in Newton Abbot. Mary died in 1929 and George died in 1931. Both are buried in Newton Abbot Cemetery.
