HATCHER FAMILY TREE

WILLIAM HATCHER

William Hatcher was born about 1798, he married Sophia Dale at St George the Martyr church in Southwark on 21st August 1819. They moved to Merton, where William was a Gardener to Mr Rasch in the 1820's. Their first child was Edward he was baptised in June 1820, William Henry was baptised 17th October 1821, Henry was baptised August 1823, Charles was baptised in February 1828, John Thomas was baptised 7th January 1831. By 1850 William is working as a Watchman at the Railway Station.

JOHN THOMAS HATCHER 1831 -

John Thomas was the youngest child of William Hatcher and Sophia Dale, he was born in 1830 and baptised at Merton church on 7th January 1831. John Thomas married Matilda Chandler daughter of George Chandler on 25th December 1850, both were of full age and John was a Coppersmith and Matilda was a Cook, and both signed their names. Their first child Mary was born the following year on 8th November 1851 at Merton. Their 2nd child George Samuel was born on 10th November 1855, and baptised 16th December 1855. John is now working as Labourer. The 1861 census shows the family living at 6 Carter Cottages, Wimbledon. John Thomas age 30 Labourer, Matilda age 36 a Laundress, Mary age 9 and George age 5. The 1871 census shows the family have moved to South Road, John Thomas is now a Gardener, Matilda is still doing Laundry, George now age 15 is a Signal Boy, they have a lodger Alfred Bond age 7 a Scholar, and daughter Mary Bonner age 19 with her daughter Mary Matilda age 1, F.J. Bonner is not listed, I suspect he has gone to Chiswick where he took his family to live.

John Thomas and his family moved to the Duke of Cambridge a Beer House in North Road, Haydons Lane, Wimbledon. Mary died in 1879, and F.J. Bonner left 9 year old Mary Matilda in her grand parents care. Matilda died the following year aged just 54 years on 3rd November 1880, she was buried 10th November 1880 at Wimbledon. The 1881 census shows John T Hatcher age 50 a Beer Retailer, 40 year old Hariet S. Ringo his housekeeper born in Battersea and her 13 year old daughter Harriet S. Ringo born in London, Alfred Bond now age 16 is still boarding and working as a general labourer, and Matilda Bonner grand daughter now age 11 a scholar.

I don't know when John Thomas gave up the Beer House, but he wasn't there in 1891, and Mary Matilda had moved to the Farnham area, with or without him.

MARY HATCHER 1851 - 1879

Mary was the first child of John Thomas Hatcher and Matilda Chandler, she was born 8th November 1851. Her brother George Samuel was born when Mary was 4 years old. Mary married Frederick James Bonner son of James Bonner from Frensham. So far I have not found where or when they married. Their first child Mary Matilda was born 31st January 1870 at South Road, Haydons Lane, Wimbledon. Frederick James was working as a Plasterer, and must have worked away from home as the 1871 census, shows Mary and their daughter living at her parents house, Frederick James is not mentioned. He wasn't far away though, as later that year Albert Edmond was born and baptised at Wimbledon on 27th August 1871. The family moved to Chiswick where Frederick James worked as a Brewer's Servant, I think they had more children, but Mary died age 27 of Cancer, on 1st April 1879, her Aunt Jane Chandler was present. Her husband distributed the children among relatives, and they never saw him again.
