JEREMY JERVIS

JEREMY JERVIS 1739/40 - 1789

Jeremy was the second child of John Jervis and Jane Taverner, he was baptised 7th May 1740 at Dunsford. Jeremy married Mary, and they possibly had 4 children. Martha baptised 17th July 1771 at Tedburn St Mary. John  baptised 10th August 1773 at Tedburn St Mary. Jeremiah born about 1777 and Anna Maria born about 1781.

Jeremy, it seems, was quite an important person in Dunsford, or in the Church at Dunsford. His gravestone is next to the path and very close to the entrance to the church. It states that he died 1st August 1789 aged 50, the inscription includes his wife Mary and three children, John, Jeremiah and Anna Maria. Also there is a stone on the Belfry floor "In memory if Jeremy Jervis who died 19th August 1789, aged 49". Perhaps he was a Bellringer? The register for Dunsford, states he was buried 23rd August 1789 aged 49.
