JOHN SPLATT

JOHN SPLATT 1796 -

John was the 4th child of Simon Splatt and Hannah Trend, he was baptised 17th April 1796 at Whitestone. He married Dorothy Wannell on 16th November 1820 at Whitestone, witnessed by Joseph Newman and Charles Wannell. They had one child Maria baptised 17th June 1821. Dorothy died aged 31 and was buried 23rd September 1821, their daughter Maria died aged 5 months and was buried 15th October 1821. John moved to Exwick, but returned to Whitstone to marry Susannah Dowre on 19th February 1823, the witnesses were George Pester & Ambrose Westlake. I don't know how many children they had, but the 1851 census shows one child Richard born about 1838 living with them.

The 1851 census shows they were living at Okhampton Street, St Thomas. John aged 56, Labourer born at Whitstone, Susanna his wife aged 59, Seamstress born at Bishops Tawton, Richard their son aged 13, scholar born at Exeter.

By 1861 John's wife Susanna had died, and John was living alone at Okhampton Street, he was now 68 and working as a Labourer.
