JOHN SPLATT (2)

John Splatt is an ancestor of Robert Sanders, my thanks to him for giving me his branch of the family.

JOHN SPLATT 1731 -

John was the 3rd child of William Splatt and Joan Trump. He was born at Tedburn St Mary and baptised 13th April 1731. John married Elizabeth Budge daughter of Edward & Elizabeth Budge on 28th November 1753. They stayed in Tedburn St Mary and raised their family of 5 children. John was born in 1754. Betty was born in 1756, Mary was born in 1760, Henry was born in 1763 and William was born in 1766.

HENRY SPLATT 1763 -

Henry was the 4th child of John Splatt and Elizabeth Budge, he was born at Tedburn St Mary in 1763. He married Mary Dicker on 17th September 1793 at Tedburn St Mary Church. They had a daughter Rachel baptised 22nd December 1793, she married her cousin Andrew Preston. The 1821 census shows Henry was a Yeoman living at Church Garden Cottage, also their grandson Henry Preston was living with them. 

Henry paid 2 shillings for a years rent for Church Garden and £12 for Church pieces; both recorded in the Feoffees of Tedburn St Mary for the year ending at Lady Day 1834. (25th March) The following year 1835 he also paid 2 shillings for Church Garden then two payments one of £8 & one of £4 for a years rent, he was in arrears until he paid the second amount. The 1836 account gives me a clearer picture, the 2 shillings for Church Garden is for the lease which he had for "3 lives" the £12 was the rent per annum for Church Pieces. But it would appear that our Henry was not always on  time paying his rent. By 1845/6 Henry Preston had taken over the rent of Church Pieces; the rent was still £12.
