CAN YOU HELP TO SOLVE A PUZZLE ?

On this page I have listed all John and Ann Ched(g)zoy's 22 children that were baptised at Stoke St Gregory church, in the hope that we can find out which child belongs to which John & Ann Chedzoy. Julie Chedgzoy has given me her information and I have now put the parents names next to each child. Birth certificates were not issued until 1837. I hope that we are correct, but  if you believe otherwise, then let me know.

The two families are John Chedzoy and Ann Gait who married in 1816 and John Chedgzoy and Ann Chedzoy who married in 1821.

25th December 1817 - Thomas son of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait - Mason - SSG 

14th November 1819 - Mary daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait - Labourer - SSG

14th November 1819 - Martha daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait - Labourer -SSG

24th February 1822 - Hannah daughter of John Chedgzoy and Ann Gait -  Labourer - SSG Hannah married John Allen, they went to live at Llandaff, Glamorgan. The 1851 census show John Allen age 25 an Agricultural Labourer, born at Wiveliscombe, Somerset, his wife Hannah Allen age 28, born at Stoke St Gregory, daughter Jane Allen age 1, born at Llandaff, Glamorgan. They also had a son Thomas, born about 1854. The 1881 census shows they had moved to Cardiff, John Allen is now working as a Railway Labourer, age 54, his wife Hannah Allen, age 57, both have stated their birth place as Taunton, also son Thomas age 27 unmarried, working as a Carpenter. Their daughter Jane in 1881 was living in Gloucester with her aunt Dinah Chedgzoy a retired Dressmaker aged 74 and unmarried. At present we are trying to find out more about Dinah Chedgzoy.

7th December 1823 - Louisa Emma daughter of John Chedgzoy and Ann Gait - Labourer - SSG

21st November 1824 - Sarah daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait - Labourer - SSG

5th June 1825 Charles son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy ? - Labourer - SSG Charles married Fanny  Sweeting from North Curry, Charles was Agricultural Labourer, and the 1881 census shows him living at no. 2 Union Street, Bridgwater, he is aged 56, his wife Fanny is aged 54, and daughter Elizabeth is aged 16, a Charwoman, born at Bridgewater. I believe they also had a son Henry also born at Bridgwater, who was grandfather to Sam Chedgzoy the famous Everton footballer.

18th March 1827 Eliza daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer -SSG

3rd June 1827 Daniel son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG Daniel married Selina Masters, daughter of Robert & Deborah Masters. They had 5 children, Mary Ann baptised 24th January 1861, Harriet baptised 5th August 1862, George Robert baptised 10th June 1866, Deborah born about 1869, Eliza baptised 12th March 1871. Daniel is not mentioned on the 1881 census, his family are living at 46 Stoford Hamlet, Barwick. Salina Chedzoy is stated as head, married, age 46, born at Stoford, son George age 14, a Labourer, born at Stoke St Gregory, daughter Deborah age 12, Glover Sew, born at Stoke St Gregory, daughter Eliza age 9, Scholar also born at Stoke St Gregory. Daughter Harriet Chedgzoy was working as a general Domestic Servant for the Johnson Household at Tower Cottage, Bournemouth Road, Parkstone, Dorset.

8th March 1829 Sarah daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait ? - Labourer -SSG

27th June 1830 Eliza daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG

21st August 1831 Daniel son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG

2nd March 1833 Andrew son of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait - Labourer - SSG

2nd March 1833 Charlotte son of John Chedzoy and Ann Gait - Labourer - SSG

25th July 1833 Edward/Edmund son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG

2nd August 1835 John son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG John married Sarah Caroline Odell on 30th June 1861 at Islington, Middlesex.

3rd September 1837 Noah son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG Noah sadly died aged 1 year, and was buried at Stoke St Gregory on 11th November 1838.

16th August 1840 Dinah daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG

6th November 1842 Harriet daughter of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG

13th October 1844 George son of John Chedzoy and Ann Chedgzoy - Labourer - SSG
