MARY ANN SCANES

MARY ANN SCANES 1808 -

Mary Ann was the second child of Henry Scanes and Elizabeth Tuck, she was born in Ide and baptised 3rd October 1808. Mary Ann married  James Hitchcock at Ide church on 5th April 1831.  Their first child Sarah Ann was baptised at Ide on 26th January 1832. James' profession was a Cooper. No more children were baptised at Ide. I found them again on the 1851 census, living at 4 Pavillion Place, Madalin, Holy Trinity Exeter, so this is where any other of their children no doubt were baptised.

The census shows James Hitchcock, age 43, Railway Carrier born at Exeter, (although on their marriage entry he was from Ide). Mary A. wife, age 42, born at Ide, and Sarah A. daughter, unmarried, aged 19, born at Ide.
