MARY REMNANT

MARY REMNANT 1853 -

Mary was the 8th child of John Remnant and Jane Kircher, she was born on 15th November 1853 in Spreakley, Frensham, Surrey, and was baptised in December 1853. Mary was in domestic service. When she was 19 years old she had illegitimate son Frederick James, he was born 15th December 1870. Mary appears on the 1871 census for Frensham living at home with her parents John and Jane Remnant and brother James, with Frederick aged 3 months, grandson.

FREDERICK JAMES REMNANT 1870 -

Frederick was the illegitimate son of Mary Remnant, he was born on 15th December 1870 in Frensham, he appears on the 1871 census return with his mother and grand-parents age 3 months, he was sent to live with his aunt Eliza and uncle John Burnet on Wells Farm, Acton, Middx, where he appears on the 1881 census for Acton, aged 10 years, nephew. He lived with them until he appears on the 1891 census living in lodgings in Disraeli Road, Willesden Green, (now part of Greater London) aged 21 years, a Railway Cleaner.

Two years later Frederick married Elizabeth Harriet Harmer daughter of William Henry Harmer and Elizabeth Conway. They married on 4th October 1893 at St Mary's Parish Church in Acton, Middx, they were both aged 22 years. Frederick put his occupation as Builders Labourer and his father as Frederick James Remnant, deceased Soldier!!!. His address at the time was 5 Victoria Terrace, Disraeli Road, Acton. Elizabeth was living at Brett's Place, The Steyne, Acton. Elizabeth's sister Ellen was a witness.

They had 12 children:- Frederick James Henry born 17th October 1893, baptised at St Mary's church Acton. Annie Elizabeth, Emily Mary, Ellen Louise, Robert William Patrick, Alice, Rose Lily, John, James, Bert, George and Sidney who died in Singapore.
