PRESTON FAMILY TREE

my thanks to Robert Sanders for giving some information on this line. The rest has been compiled using the Tedburn St Mary transcript of the Parish registers by C.A.T. Fursdon dated 1936.

ROBERT PRESTON  - 1772

Robert married Mary Melhuish at Tedburn St Mary on 28th November 1715. They had eight children. Elizabeth baptised 30th April 1716. Mary baptised 26th November 1717, John baptised 12th January 1720. Nanny baptised 1st February 1722. Robert baptised 16th January 1724. Andrew baptised 6th February 1726. Ruth baptised 16th May 1728. Sadly 15 year old Mary died in the first week of April 1733, just one month before her youngest sister was born, and named after her. Mary baptised 3rd May 1733. Four years later 9 year old Ruth died, she was buried 23rd August 1737. Then Mary died aged 10, and was buried 20th June 1743.  Robert and Mary were married for nearly 55 years. Mary was buried 10th August 1770, and Robert was buried 8th October 1772.

ANDREW PRESTON 1726 - 

Andrew married Elizabeth Dicker at Tedburn St Mary on 26th January 1754. I have found 5 children for them in the parish registers. John was baptised 17th July 1755. Andrew was baptised 2nd March 1758. Ann was baptised 7th October 1760, Mary was baptised 25th July 1763 and Charles was baptised 15th May 1768.

ANDREW PRESTON 1758 -

Andrew married Betty Splatt daughter of John Splatt and Elizabeth Budge on 26th February 1781. They stayed in Tedburn St Mary and raised their family. Maria was born in 1781, John was born in 1783, Mary was born in 1787, Robert was born in 1789, Andrew was born 1792, Henry was born in 1798.

I think I have found Andrew on the Tedburn St Mary Population census of 1821: Upcott Cottage; Andrew Preston, Carpenter, aged 60-70. Henry, son, Carpenter, aged 20-30. Sarah Preston, aged 50-60. Mary Ann, daughter, aged 5-10.

JOHN PRESTON 1783 -

John was the second child of Andrew Preston and Betty Splatt, he was born at Tedburn St Mary in 1783. He married Jane Turpin at Kenton on 15th November 1815. John and Jane lived at Kenton where they raised their family.  Eliza Anne was born in 1816, John was born in 1817, John Francis was born in 1819, and Jane Splatt was born in 1822.

ANDREW PRESTON 1792 -

Andrew was the 5th child of Andrew Preston and Betty Splatt, he was born in 1792 at Tedburn St Mary. He married his cousin Rachel Splatt daughter of Henry Splatt and Mary Dicker on 13th August 1815. They had three children, Henry born about 1816, Mary born in 1817 and Andrew born in 1819. The 1821 census for Tedburn St Mary shows Andrew was a Cordwainer of Crockernwell, Cheriton Bishop, also their two younger children, Mary and Andrew. Henry was with his grandparents Henry and Mary Splatt at Church Garden Cottage.
