JOHN ROLFE 1817 - 1881

John was born at Kingsclere about 1817, the son of John Rolfe and Mary Farmer. John was a witness at John Sims & Eliza Lewington's marriage in 1836. Eliza moved away to Wiltshire, where her son John was born, but sadly for her, her husband died and she returned to Kingsclere.

John married Eliza Lewington on 23rd June 1841 at St Mary's church, Kingsclere, they both made their marks, the witnesses were John Harris and Maria Lewington. They stayed in Kingsclere where they had 9 children. Henry baptised 3rd April 1842. Mary Ann baptised 6th October 1844, she married Jessie Harris. William baptised 13th July 1845, he sadly died before he was 6 years old. Elizabeth born 28th July 1846, (when Eliza registered her birth, she stated her name was Elizabeth not Eliza). David was baptised 4th September 1849. Sarah born about 1849. Thomas baptised 25th August 1850, but sadly died in infancy. Thomas baptised 23rd January 1852. Charles baptised 16th December 1853 but she sadly died aged 6 and was buried 21st January 1859.
