SAMUEL JOHN CHEDZOY 1859 -

Samuel John was the first child of Henry Chedzoy and Sophia Wheadon, he was born 3rd August 1859 at High Ham, Somerset. The family moved to Glastonbury for a while and then to Puriton. He married Jane Diamond from North Petherton. They settled in Puriton where their children were born. Matilda was born about 1887, Alice was born about 1888, Wallace was born 1890. 

Samuel John dropped the Samuel from his name and was known as John which appears on the 1891 census: Lower Street, Puriton: John Chedzoy aged 31, Carter, born at High Ham. Jane his wife, aged 29, born at North Petherton. Matilda their daughter aged 4, Scholar born at Puriton. Alice their daughter aged 3, born at Puriton. Wallace their son aged 5 months, born at Puriton.

By 1901 John was a widow, he and his 3 younger children were living with his parents and sister Flora Ann at Little Lane, Puriton.
