SAMUEL SERCOMBE
SAMUEL SERCOMBE 1762 -
Samuel was the seventh child of William Sercombe and Ann Rowe, he was baptised at Dunsford 2nd May 1762. Samuel married his cousin Elizabeth Sercombe at Dunsford on 17th July 1787 witnessed by George Sercombe. The couple remained in Dunsford and raised their family. Mary was baptised 7th May 1789, George was baptised 20th March 1791, William was baptised 3rd March 1793, Mary was baptised 24th August 1794, John was baptised 29th March 1795, James was baptised 30th August 1801 and Samuel was baptised 24th March 1805.
The 1821 census for Dunsford shows Samuel aged 59 a Labourer and Elizabeth his wife were living at Berry Cross in the Town Quarter of Dunsford with their youngest son Samuel aged 16. Also at the same address was William Gurscott with his wife Sarah and daughter Mary. (1821 census transcribed by Fay Sampson Priestley found on the Genuki web site)
JAMES SERCOMBE 1801 -
James was the 6th child of Samuel Sercombe and Elizabeth Sercombe, he was baptised at Dunsford 30th August 1801. James married married Mary Milford on 25th September 1825. They had at least 7 children. William baptised 25th December 1825, John baptised 12th September 1830, Ann baptised 27th January 1833, Elizabeth baptised 19th April 1835, Eliza baptised 12th November 1837, George baptised 22nd December 1839 and James baptised 30th July 1843.
The 1861 census shows James and Mary living at Dunsford Village, James an Agricultural Labourer aged 59, Mary his wife, aged 54 a Laundress.
