SCANES PAGE

The Scanes name, has a few different spellings such as Skanes, Skains and Scaines, I believe they are all the same name, and depending where you came from the Parish Curate spelt it the way he thought. As with all surnames with variation of spelling as people became literate, certain spellings were adopted by families, as shown on their church certificates.

Michael Scanes has given me a lead on the origin of the name. Whilst he was on holiday in Sweden, he saw sign posts to villages called Scanes and Scane.

My Scanes family all came from Ide, Devon.
