SIDNEY CHARLES CHEDZOY
SIDNEY CHARLES CHEDZOY 1887 -
Sidney Charles was the first child of Albert Chedzoy and Sarah Dorcus Barrington, he was born in 1887 at Stoke St Gregory and was baptised 30th June 1889. Sidney married Mary Louisa Hembrow. They lived at Windmill Lane in the house where his parents had once lived. They had 5 children. Twins Vera Evelin Maud and Mildred Florence May were baptised 22nd November 1915, Mildred was always known as May. Leonard Charles baptised 24th December 1916. Herbert William baptised 30th March 1919 and Doris Joan baptised 25th September 1921. The family made their income from Withies, which varied from year to year.
Mary Louisa had bad health after Doris was born, she had T.B. so Doris went to Lane End House and was brought up by her grand parents Albert & Sarah Chedzoy. Mary Louisa died age 49 on11th February 1932, and was buried at Stoke St Gregory. Sidney is buried with her, he died aged 90 on 3rd June 1979. VERA EVELIN MAUD CHEDZOY 1915 -
Vera Evelin Maud and her twin sister Mildred Florence May were the first children born to Sydney Charles Chedzoy and Mary Louisa Hembrow, they were baptised at Stoke St Gregory on 22nd November 1915. The twins were only 17 when their mother died. Vera stayed at home and worked with her father Willow Stripping. She spent a lot of time with her cousin Raymond George Chappel Chedzoy , which resulted in her getting pregnant, so they married. Their son Michael was born. Vera wanted to sort the house out, so Michael went to stay with aunt Florence for 2 weeks, at Lane End House, who had always wanted a child to look after. Those 2 weeks never ended and Michael remained with aunt Florence. Vera and Raymond were not happy, and had frequent rows, so Vera would go and stay with her sister May.
MILDRED FLORENCE MAY CHEDZOY 1915 - 2000
Mildred Florence May was twin sister to Vera Evelin Maud, they were the first children of Sydney Charles Chedzoy and Mary Louisa Hembrow, they were baptised at Stoke St Gregory on 22nd November 1915. May as she was always known as, and her sister Vera were only 17 when their mother died. May stayed at home all her life except for a brief time during the war when she worked at a Children's home. Out of the twins she was happy to do the Cooking and Keep House for her father and siblings. May never married. She died in March 2000.
LEONARD CHARLES CHEDZOY 1916 - 1962 ( information corrected and added by Ron Chedzoy)
Leonard Charles was the first son and 3rd child of Sydney Charles Chedzoy and Mary Louisa Hembrow. He was baptised at Stoke St Gregory on 24th December 1916. Leonard met Joan Kitchen who already had a child Roger, he married her and they had 4 more children. Marion, Ronald, Joyce and Sandra. Leonard died aged 46 on 9th July 1962. he is buried with his parents at Stoke St Gregory.
HERBERT WILLIAM CHEDZOY 1919 -
Herbert William was the 4th child of Sydney Charles Chedzoy and Mary Louisa Hembrow. He was baptised 30th March 1919 at Stoke St Gregory. Herbert suffered with his chest as a young man and failed his medical for the armed forces. He worked for Frank Barrington Chedzoy for a while, doing odd building works. Then after the war worked for a builder in Taunton, until he retired. Herbert married a girl he had been engaged to for 18 years, but she died young.
DORIS JOAN CHEDZOY 1921 -
Doris Joan was the youngest child of Sydney Charles Chedzoy and Mary Louisa Hembrow. She was baptised at Stoke St Gregory on 25th September 1921. Her mother Mary had T.B. and her health got worse after Doris was born, so Doris went to live with her grand parents Albert & Sarah Chedzoy at Lane End House. Doris also suffered with health problems, with her chest and eczema. Doris became part of the family at Lane End, helping aunt Florence and her 3 uncles, Ernest, Henry and Herbert, she died in her forties.
