THE TEDBURN ST MARY SPLATT'S

Best Splatt 1668 - 1731

Best Splatt was born in Whitstone, son of Richard Splatt and Joan Best. He married Mary Langworthy at Whitstone and their first child Richard was born there. The family then moved to Tedburn St Mary, where four more children were baptised. William on 20th February 1694, then Elizabeth on 28th April 1696, she married George Pasmore on 5th August 1725. John was baptised 27th November 1701 and Laurence on 11th December 1705. Richard sadly died aged 19, he was buried 11th December 1711. Mary, Best's wife was buried 18th December 1718. Best himself was buried 1st June 1731 aged 63.

William Splatt 1693 -

William the 2nd child of Best and Mary Splatt above, married Joan Trump at St Peter Cathedral, Exeter, 12th February 1724. They raised seven children at Tedburn St Mary. William was baptised 1st April 1725, he sadly died at 4 weeks old and was buried 2nd May 1725. Betty was baptised 4th September 1729, John was baptised 13th April 1731, Mary was baptised 24th April 1733, Sarah was baptised 26th November 1734, Joan was baptised 17th May 1736 and Agnes was baptised 15th October 1738. There is a burial for Joan Splatt on 13th March 1740, no age is given, but I am assuming it is William's wife.

John Splatt 1701 - 1747?

John Splatt son of Best and Mary Splatt, married Agnes Moxhay at Tedburn St Mary church on 1st August 1721. Their first child Agnes was baptised 9th August 1722, then Elizabeth was baptised 18th February 1724. Two years later Mary was baptised 29th January 1726. then their first son John was baptised 31st December 1727. William and Joseph were both baptised 9th March 1732, but sadly William did not survive, he was buried 12th March 1732. Three years later Henry was baptised 20th May 1735 and finally Benedict was baptised 10th January 1738, but he sadly died aged 18 months, he was buried 21st July 1739.

Agnes died as a widow and was buried 22nd February 1769. |John possibly died in April 1747.

John Splatt 1727 -

John Splatt married Elizabeth Budge (daughter of Edward & Elizabeth Budge) at Tedburn St Mary church 28th November 1753. Their first child John was baptised 16th April 1754, followed two years later by Betty, baptised 7th June 1756, she married Andrew Preston 26th February 1781. Mary was baptised 22nd June 1760, Henry was baptised 17th May 1763, William was baptised 23rd February 1766.

Henry Splatt 1735 -

Henry Splatt son of John & Agnes Splatt married Mary Dick at Tedburn St Mary church 17th September 1793. Their daughter Rachel was baptised 22nd December 1793, she married Andrew Priston from Cheriton Bishop 13th August 1815.
