SPLATT FAMILY NO.2

This family tree starts in Whitstone where my other Splatt family came from. I'm sure the two families will turn out to be the same. (information from Whitstone and Tedburn St Mary Parish registers and IGI)

JOHN SPLATT  - 1647

John was born in the late 1500's, I have no baptism date for him, or information on his parents. The parish registers show a burial for Mary Splatt wife of John on 5th May 1604. I don't know if this is John's wife or it could be his mother.  Which ever is the answer John married Elizabeth Rawe of Shobbroke at Dunchideock on 6th October 1604. Their first child Laurence was baptised 14th September 1605. There are 5 years missing from the registers between 1606 & 1610. Richard was born between 1606 & 1610, Bridgett was also born between 1606 & 1610, she married John Roberts 30th October 1649. Margaret baptised 11th October 1611, Elizabeth baptised 31st December 1613, Thomasine baptised 16th November 1615, Francis baptised 3rd December 1617, Alice baptised 6th February 1622, who married Andrew Westcott 18th October 1647.

John was buried 21st January 1647, his widow Elizabeth was buried 16th December 1657.

RICHARD SPLATT 1606-10? -

Richard was probably a son of John Splatt, and was born between 1606 & 1610, no christenings were recorded in the Parish register for Whitstone between these dates. Richard married Joan Best at Whitstone 28th January 1648. They had 11 children. John was baptised 2nd January 1649, George was baptised 20th March 1650, James was baptised 14th December 1651, Laurence was baptised 28th March 1654, Richard was baptised 21st November 1655, Francis was baptised 9th February 1658, who was buried 21st March 1658. Francis baptised 16th May 1660, who also died and was buried 20th May 1660. Agnes was baptised 9th June 1661, Richard baptised 16th October 1664, who sadly died aged 2, and was buried 6th December 1666. Best baptised 2nd July 1668 and Richard born 30th March 1670. There may have been another child Elizabeth whom I have no baptism date for, she was buried 22nd September 1668 daughter of Richard Splatt. Also John Splatt son of Richard buried 1st March 1671.

BEST SPLATT 1668 -

Best was the 10th child of Richard Splatt and Joan Best. (No prizes for guessing where his name came from) He was born at Whitstone and baptised 2nd July 1668. Best married Mary Langworthy at Whitstone 13th April 1791. Their first child Richard was baptised 23rd February 1692, they moved to Tedburn St Mary where the rest of their family were born. William was baptised 20th February 1694, Elizabeth was baptised 28th April 1696, John was born on 12th November 1701 and baptised 27th November 1701. Laurence was baptised 11th December 1705. Sadly Richard died and was buried at Tedburn St Mary 11 December 1712. Best's wife Mary died 6 years later and was buried 18th December 1718,

WILLIAM SPLATT 1693 -

William was the 2nd child of Best Splatt and Mary Langworthy. He was born at Tedburn St Mary and was baptised 20th February 1693. William Married Joan Trump at St Peter Cathedral, Exeter on 12th February 1724. William and Joan lived at Tedburn St Mary and raised their family of 7 children. William was baptised 1st April 1725 but he sadly died a month later and was buried 2nd May 1725. Betty was baptised 4th September 1729, John was baptised 13th April 1731, Mary was baptised 24th April 1733, Sarah was baptised 26th November 1734, Joan was baptised 17th May 1736 and Agnes was baptised 15th October 1738.

SARAH SPLATT 1734 -

Sarah was the 5th child of William Splatt and Joan Trump. She was born at Tedburn St Mary and was baptised 26th November 1734. Sarah married John Trend at Whitstone 9th June 1763. They stayed in Whitstone and had 4 children.
