THOMAS GEORGE BAKER 1904 - 1971
Thomas George was sixth child of Charles Baker and Margaret Ann Jones he was born 24th February 1904 at Senghenydd. Thomas George was only 9 years old when his father and elder brother Charles were both killed the Senghenydd Colliery explosion in 1913. Life must have been hard for the family.
1926 was the year of the General Strike, 22 year old Tom could not find work in South Wales, so his sister Elena 's boyfriend Harry Buckland suggested that he would be able to get work in Croydon where his parents lived. They had no money so they walked from Senghenydd to Croydon and Tom got a job with Hall and Co. (I wonder how long it took them, and their shoes must have been worn out by the time they got there) It was 2 years before Tom could send for his mother and youngest sister Alice.
Thomas married Audrey Cross and they had a daughter Margaret born 4th July 1939 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. Tom died 16th October 1971 in Sheffield.
