WILLIAM CHAMPION
WILLIAM CHAMPION 1764 -
William was baptised at Stoke St Gregory on 17th January 1764, he was the first son of Abraham Champion and Jane Gait. His mother sadly died when he was 5 years old. His father Abraham married Unity Winslade the following year. William followed the Champion trade as a Stone Mason.
William married Mary Mead daughter of William Mead at Stoke St Gregory on 9th February 1785, they had 8 children, James baptised April 1785, William baptised 28th November 1786, Jenny baptised 4th May 1788, Ann baptised 9th October 1790, Abraham baptised 26th March 1792, Mary baptised 10th June 1795, married William Perry on 2nd April 1824. Rachal baptised 12th February 1799. Sarah baptised at 8 days old on 13th February 1803 at Fivehead. His wife Mary died, and William married Elizabeth. They had a son James Wonderful? Champion baptised at Fivehead on 21st December 1828.
I found a marriage for Jane Champion daughter of William Champion, to Samuel Wilment from Curry Mallet, at Fivehead, on 5th September 1826.
In 1841 the census shows William living at Fivehead, aged 78, a Mason, his wife Elizabeth aged 47, and 13 year old son James W. William died during the next 10 years. In 1851 his widow Elizabeth is still living at Fivehead, and James is 22, and unmarried, working as a Stone Mason.
JAMES W. CHAMPION 1828 -
James was the son of William Champion & Elizabeth, he was baptised at Fivehead on 21st December 1828. He married Mary Ann Yendole daughter of Charles Yendole on 13th May 1851 at Fivehead. James also became a Stone Mason.
