WILLIAM SCANES 1792

William was the 10th child of John Scanes and Mary Leader, he was baptised at Ide on 22nd May 1792. He married Ann Hore on 7th June 1815 at Ide Church. The witnesses were Simon Hore and Elizabeth Fisher. William was a Carpenter.  I believe they had 7 children. Ann baptised 1st December 1816, Edward baptised 14th December 1817, Anna baptised 28th February 1819, Elizabeth born 7th December 1820, baptised 14th January 1821, Mary who was privately baptised 9th July 1822 and again 22nd December 1822. Caroline baptised 2nd May 1824 and Frances baptised 2nd July 1826.

The 1841 census  shows that William and his family were living at Taylors, Ide. William was 50 years old, Ann his wife was 45, daughter Anna was 20, Frances was 14 and Sarah Scanes was aged 4.

EDWARD SCANES 1817 -

Edward 2nd child of William Scanes and Ann Hore was baptised at Ide 14th December 1817. Edward became a master Tailor, he can be found on the 1841 census living with Bartholomew Moon a Lead Miner and his family at Lower Town, Christow. The 1851 census shows him unmarried aged 33, living at Rattle Street, Christow, St Thomas. The 1871 census shows his situation unchanged.
