THE ELLIS FAMILY TREE

WILLIAM ELLIS 1812 -

William Ellis was born at Braunton, Barnstable, Devon about 1812. He married Elizabeth also from Braunton. 

The 1851 census shows the family living at West Hill, Barnstable. William Ellis, head, age 39 employed as an Agricultural Labourer, his wife Elizabeth age 43, daughter Ann aged 16, Worster Spinner, daughter Frances age 10, scholar, son William age 8, scholar and son Charles age 1. The whole family were born at Braunton, Devon.

CHARLES ELLIS

Charles Ellis was born at Braunton, Barnstable, Devon in 1850. I'm not sure when he moved to Wales. He worked as a Labourer when he married Janet James daughter of Thomas James from Porth Kerry. They married at Penmark on 19th August 1871, Charles signed his name. The following year on 3rd March 1872 their first child Elizabeth Ann was born at Fonmon, Penmark, Cardiff. Charles was a Farm Labourer. 

I found them on the 1881 census for Penmark. Charles Ellis, head, age 32, Agricultural Labourer, born at Barnstable, Devon. Janet Ellis, his wife, aged 30, born at Penmark,  Ann, daughter, age 9, Scholar, born at Penmark.  William, son, aged 6, Scholar, born at Penmark. Thomas, son, aged 4, Scholar, born at Penmark.  Louisa daughter, aged 2, born at Penmark..

Another daughter Sarah was born 1881/2. I found her on the 1901 census living with her sister Elizabeth Ann Chedzoy.

ELIZABETH ANN ELLIS 1872 - 1955

Elizabeth was born 3rd March 1872 the first child of Charles Ellis and Janet James, she lived at Penmark and later moved to Rhoose. Elizabeth met Ernest Eli Chedzoy who came from Somerset, they married at 10 o'clock Wednesday 12th October 1898, at Porth Kerry, near Barry, Elizabeth was 26 years old.

Elizabeth had 4 children see Ernest Eli Chedzoy . They lived at Llanblethian, and moved house several times. Ernest Eli died 9th March 1952 at Homestead, Elizabeth moved to 2 Coronation Cottages, St Athan, where she died 3 years later 13th February 1955.
